7.13.10, Tuesday

This is my postcard from Provence. Patrick and I traveled to France last fall, and spent a couple of nights in Arles in southern France. Van Gogh spent some time there doing some of his famous work. They love cicadas there too. It is a symbol of summer time. (Cicadas are also part of summer time in my hometown, Huntsville, Alabama.) I bought this small yellow clay ornament there. Lavender is also big in southern France, so that is how I came up with that element.
This painting is on a mini stretched canvas, 4" x 6". It has depth on the sides. The lavender is on the sides of the canvas.

  1. I was just telling Allison about the cicadas back home. I don't think they live up here in New England! -Mark
