Interior Garden, Chennai

NFS, prints available for order

This painting was commissioned by my friends to celebrate their marriage, four years ago. Much time elapsed between the initial discussions, the reviewing of drawings, and then the actual painting. I started the painting last summer/fall, but did most of it this spring. The tree is a banyan tree—it has roots that grow down from the branches. I included peacocks, the mango tree, a jasmine plant and lotus flowers all as elements native to India. Chennai (formerly called Madras) is the birth city of my friend Deepa.
