Week 1 – Yellow Flowers

Though this painting is innocuous enough, it kind of surprised me. Not that I know what I expected. It makes me realize though that I might have a lot of surprises in store for myself this year.
Many people have asked me if I have noticed or anticipate a change in my artwork since Asher was born. I really don't think so. But I do remember that I took the reference shots of these flowers (they are hot pink in real life—anyone know the name of them?) in the final days of pregnancy.
This color palette is one that I plan to explore. (I noticed while working on it earlier this week that the colors are similar to my Leaves & Fish painting.)
9" x 12", oil on wood panel, $250

One-a-Week, a new project

Hello and Happy Solstice!
Three years ago, in 2010, I started this blog with a painting a day project for the summer, starting on the solstice, ending on the equinox. I did the project again for the summer of 2011. Last summer I took a break as I geared up for parenthood. Now I am ready to get back at it. But this time is will be a little different—one painting per week, for one year. I'm kicking it off on solstice again. I'll be posting my weekly paintings here, so check back often, or sign up for the email updates!

A work in progress

I thought I would share some work in progress images for my Commemorate the Date oil paintings...first I do some thumbnail sketches—small, quick drawings without much detail, to help me figure out the composition.

Then I do a more detailed drawing:
The next step is yet to come for this one...
