Week 27 – North of Boise

I was in Idaho for a long weekend in October. I loved the landscape along Hwy 55 just north of Boise. I thought it would be easy to find some reference photos online, but it turns out I should have taken a few reference shots out the window of the car.

Week 26 – Winter Solstice

Happy Winter Solstice, and Merry Christmas!
I might work back into the reeds in the left foreground, or maybe by the next time I see this painting in person I'll feel more comfortable with it the way it is.
Half way through my One-a-Week project, and feeling like I need to make the most of it as I move forward. I have a few exhibitions lined up for 2014, so am looking forward to getting some of these out in the public.

Week 25 – The Bosphorus

I came across a sketch that I did two years ago when working on some commissioned work in Istanbul, and decided to do a color version it. I like the contrast of one bright color on a field of neutrals, but I think I still like the sketch (below) better.

Week 24 – Magpies & Fox

I can't even remember what my inspiration was on this one. It's been a blur of a week. But this piece makes me glad that I made the commitment to do a painting per week this year. It's fairly amazing what I can get done when I have a deadline.
Oil on canvas, 15" x 30" $400

Week 23 – Owl in the Rain

I visited the National Gallery in D.C. this past Saturday. After seeing Arthur Dove's "Rain" (mixed media—I borrowed the image of it here from the web), I decided to do a rainy day painting.
I had a reference shot of this owl from the nature center at Pokagon State Park in Indiana, from a visit there in October.
