Week 35 – Nandi with Red

This is a small color study; I intend to do a large version of this concept. For the larger piece, I am still working on the palette and the profile of Nandi. I painted over an old painting for this one. The turquoise is a color that was showing through in small places. I decided to pick it up and use it more intentionally as well.

Week 34 – Lazienki Park (Warszawa)

I took the gray background idea and applied it to the background branches. The birds in this painting are called Great Tit. I like their markings but don't love the sound of their name, so I named the painting after the location rather than the subject matter.

Oil on paper, 36" x 11.75," $600
Prints will be available soon.

Week 33 – Birds & Branches color study

I've always planned to do another painting in the vein of Kentucky Sparrows, and now I am finally working on it. This time the birds and branches are inspired by photos from Lazienki Park in Warsaw (I was there in November of 2011).
I think this study has convinced me that a gray background would fall a little flat. I'll probably go with a bluer tone.

Week 32 – Yellow Leaves & Birds

Here is the finished painting that I have been working on over the past few weeks. It falls into my Leaves & Fish theme (I need a better title for this body of work!). I mentioned long ago that I wanted to work on this theme (see my Acorns & Snails post). Some of my weekly paintings have been within the ball park of this theme, but this one ties in closely. And, I recently had some additional motivation on this front.

I'm very excited to announce that my painting, Leaves & Fish, will be on the cover of the NEMAA (Northeast Minneapolis Artists Association) directory this year. NEMAA is an amazing organization that is made up of more than 700 members who are artists or support artists working in NE Mpls. They print 30,000 copies of the directory, and use the image to promote Art-a-Whirl, the annual spring art crawl in Northeast Mpls.

I hope to have several paintings in this body of work completed by Art-a-Whirl, which runs May 16–18 this year.
