Week 44 – Red Ferns & Snails

A digression from my birds. This is a larger painting that I have been working on for the past several weeks. In the end, I think I like the study better. This piece, although larger, was a bit of a study and learning experience itself. I had forgotten how tricky red oil paints can be to work with.
I have another fern/snail composition in progress that I am enjoying. It will be ready to post in a week or two.

Week 43 – Nightingale

I had no idea what a nightingale looked like before I looked it up. They are more subdued than I had imagined. But I like that tail flick.

Week 42 – Barn Swallows

Barn Swallows. I hadn't realized how red-white-and-blue swallow are. Or how much they look like little bombers when they are in flight. Their heads almost look like they have on a helmet in some of the reference photos I found.

Week 41 – Killdeer

My bird of the week is the killdeer. I like it's giant eyes, black stripes, and long skinny legs with knobby knees.
